Dangerous Design Flaw of Imported Racking UprightsSteve Cappella
The American storage system manufacturing industry and its dealers are under tremendous pricing pressure from the abundance of imported “RMI Approved” roll formed pallet racking systems.
The price differential of these imported racking systems can be so significant as compared to domestic manufacturers that buyers cannot not resist the cost savings.
These buyers are told that these systems include the R-Mark certification and a licensed seismic engineer stamp can be provided.
Unfortunately, buyers may not realize that a lower price doesn’t always mean lower risk.
Evidence has been mounting after some recent collapses that there could be a serious and dangerous design flaw with this type of imported upright frame.
Due to a shared connection of the cross bracing to columns with just one small diameter bolt, upright columns are prone to unwanted twisting which can create a domino effect and potentially fatal collapse.
